SCOTT A. MCCREA – Chairman
Mr. McCrea is the Chief Executive Officer of The Armour Group Limited, one of Atlantic Canada’s largest fully integrated real estate concerns. Prior to August, 2011, Mr. McCrea was Executive Vice-President of Cominar Real Estate Investment Trust and was the founding President and CEO of Overland Realty a TSX-V corporation focused on Atlantic Canadian real estate opportunities, which company was subsequently acquired by Cominar REIT. His 21 years of experience include the development and management of complex real estate projects in the commercial, residential, hospitality and tourism-related fields, and have involved the successful negotiation of hundreds of millions in debt and equity placements and property acquisitions. Mr. McCrea has been an active participant on various Boards and non-profit organizations within the community; most recently these have included Mount St Vincent University and Pier 21 Society. His accomplishments have led to the receipt of several awards including Canada’s Top 40 under 40, Halifax’s Business Person of the Year (2006), and one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEOs. Mr. McCrea is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto where he studied business and economics.
JOHN A. CARNELLA – President & CEO
Mr. Carnella is a 25-year veteran of the hotel and finance industries and most recently served for five years as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, a global hotel owner and operator based in Toronto with properties in over 25 countries. Prior to joining Fairmont Raffles, Mr. Carnella spent eight years at Host Marriott Corporation (now, Host Hotels and Resorts) (Host), the largest lodging real estate investment trust in the world. During his tenure at Host, Mr. Carnella served as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and as Senior Vice President and Treasurer. Prior to joining Host, Mr. Carnella held a series of progressive positions in investment banking with Lazard Freres & Co. (now, Lazard) and later with National Westminster Bank (now, The Royal Bank of Scotland). Mr. Carnella is a past Trustee of Legacy Hotels REIT, and a past member of the Board of Avendra LLC, a global procurement company serving the lodging industry. Mr. Carnella holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
BLAIR COOK, C.A., M.B.A.
Mr. Blair Cook has worked across various industries and sectors during his career in a variety senior financial roles. In 2008, Blair was the CFO of a diversified Canadian public company, Clarke Inc. In 2007, he was CFO of Armco Capital, one of Atlantic Canadas largest real estate development companies, which was also named as one of Canadas 50 Best Privately Managed Companies. And in 2006, he was CFO of Fishery Products International USA, one of the largest seafood processors in the United States. Blair continues to serve in a director capacity for a number of non-profit and Canadian publically listed organizations. Prior to 2006, Blair worked in business development in the utility industry for seven years for two of North Americas leading utilities. Blair attained his CA in 1995 while working for Grant Thornton in financial services. He also has an MBA from the Sobey School of Business at St. Marys University. In addition to his industry and public practice experience, Blair has been dedicated to education, learning and development throughout his career. Blair has been a regular lecturer, facilitator, course coordinator, and author for the Atlantic School of Chartered Accountancy and a number of other provincial chartered accountant institutes across Canada since 1996. Blair is also a faculty member of St. Marys University specializing in various intermediate and advanced accounting courses. In 2009, Blair joined Smartfirm, a leading e-learning organization and developer of on-line, interactive and innovative professional courses.
ALVIN G. POETTCKER
Mr. Al Poettcker is Chief Executive Officer, UBC Properties Trust. He is widely experienced in both hotel ownership and hotel lending. Between 1984 and 1996, he was President at Redekop Properties Inc., Bentall Development Inc., one of Western Canada’s largest property and development companies, and Barbican Properties Inc., which specializes in residential development and workouts of distressed income properties.
MATTHEW TOWNS
Mr. Matthew Towns is the Vice President Investments for Clarke Inc., a publicly traded investment holding company based in Halifax (TSX: CKI). He also serves on the Board of Directors of Bonnett’s Energy Services Trust (TSX: BT.UN) and Midlake Oil & Gas. Prior to joining Clarke in February 2007, he worked in equity research at RBC Capital Markets evaluating Energy Trusts. Previous to his position at RBC Capital Markets, Mr. Towns spent over four years at Imperial Oil Limited, in various roles including Treasury, Cash Management, Risk Management and Business Development. Mr. Towns is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University as well as an MBA from St. Mary’s University.
